Natural process coffees often lean heavy toward a wild, overripe flavor that many love, but this one yields a more clear profile, expressive of the terroir, with stellar acidity and balance that we seek out in naturals. And our founder, Jake, who knows these Burundi coffees personally, really loves this profile from Busambo. Like our other Burundi selection this year, Busambo is also grown near the national rainforest at high altitudes resulting in limelike sweetness, with bright raspberry and fig jam notes.

Burundi coffees have some of the most unique profiles on the planet and, with bias, we would confidently say that they rival any other in the East African region. They are composed of 100% Red Bourbon varieties and, combined with growing elevations at a towering 1800-2200M right nearby the national rainforest, they make for a stellar cup. Our two selections this year are from the fine crew at BSS (Burundi Seeds Speciality) who own and operate Umoco Washing Station, and processed these beautiful coffees that were farmed by small holding farmers who deliver coffee cherry to the station throughout the season.

How should I brew?

We think you should brew any way you like. But if you're looking for recommendations, a 1:16 ratio of coffee to water is our favorite. 60g/L is good too, if you're into that.

Grind your coffee fresh at a medium-ish grind size (depending on your brewer), heat up some nice water, and you're most of the way there.

If you're using a V60, 20g of coffee to 320g of water is great, and it's helpful to have a pouring kettle. Bloom, wait, and then pour high and in a steady stream for a nice extraction.

If you're using a batch coffee maker, 60g of coffee to a liter of water is just right. Brew it up and let it rip.

What should I do with a Liaise Coffee Bag Clip?

Yes, our 12oz coffee bags are resealable. BUT if you get a 5lb bag, it is not resealable. If you decide to go big with a 2lb or 5lb bag from Liaise, the bag clip is a perfect tool. Just remember, the Liaise Coffee Bag Clip is NOT a chip clip. It's a coffee bag clip.
