PERU: EMERITA DELGADO

PERU: EMERITA DELGADO

Sourcing coffee in Peru is common, but often it is not done as well or as  thoroughly as our partners have done here. Accessibility is the name of the game for many coffee farmers - especially in hard to reach areas. Those hard to reach areas, often having less distractions, sustain pure farming practices at  high elevations that result in a high quality harvest. Querocoto is a remote and singular district in Cajamarca’s Chota province. Reaching the region involves flying into Chiclayo, followed by a five-hour drive on paved roads to the town center. We’re honored to share these coffees from an emerging origin, that once again, take a long road to get to your cup.

Emerita owns Las Piedras and  for 12 years has refined her craft alongside her children who care for the farm with her. Despite coffee being a relatively new endeavor in Chota, producers do not hire external labor, instead practicing Ayni, the ancestral Inca tradition of mutual aid between families and friends.
