EA Natural Process is decaffeinated using Ethyl Acetate (EA). In this method the green beans are steamed or soaked to expand the beans for caffeine extraction. The expanded beans are then soaked in EA, a naturally occurring organic compound found in many fruits and vegetables which can be synthesized for coffee decaffeination. In the presence of EA, caffeine bonds with the compound and is drawn out of the bean. The decaffeinated coffee is then removed from the EA solvent, rinsed thoroughly, re-dried and re-bagged for transport.

How should I brew?

We think you should brew any way you like. But if you're looking for recommendations, a 1:17 ratio of coffee to water is our favorite. 60g/L is good too, if you're into that.

Grind your coffee fresh at a medium-ish grind size (depending on your brewer), heat up some nice water, and you're most of the way there.

If you're using a V60, 20g of coffee to 340g of water is great, and it's helpful to have a pouring kettle. Bloom, wait, and then pour high and in a steady stream for a nice extraction.

If you're using a batch coffee maker, 60g of coffee to a liter of water is just right. Brew it up and let it rip.

What should I do with a Liaise Coffee Bag Clip?

Yes, our 12oz coffee bags are resealable. BUT if you get a 5lb bag, it is not resealable. If you decide to go big with a 5lb bag from Liaise, the bag clip is a perfect tool. Just remember, the Liaise Coffee Bag Clip is NOT a chip clip. It's a coffee bag clip.
